The perennial question! What’s the difference between a canoe and a kayak?

Our discipline, the slalom, uses either a canoe or a kayak. The difference between the two boats is the position of the paddler and the type of paddle he or she uses.
The canoeist paddles in a kneeling position and uses a single-bladed paddle. In the double canoe (C-2), each crew member uses a single-bladed paddle. One generally paddles on the right, the other on the left.

The kayaker paddles in a sitting position and uses a double-bladed paddle.
